One word a day, on your screen.
Läxi puts a single word from the language you are learning on your home screen each day. The widget is not an add-on, it is the point. Everything runs on your device: no account, no server, no advertising, and no network requests at all.
Swedish, Spanish, English and German, from English or German, levels A1 to C2. The code is open source under Apache 2.0, and the language packs are built from open dictionaries and corpora.
The fastest way to reach a human is email: office@devhub.at. Please say which iOS version and which iPhone you are using, it saves a round trip.
Open Läxi once first. The widget reads a file the app writes, so it has nothing to show until the app has run. Then press and hold an empty area of the home screen, tap the plus in the corner, search for Läxi and pick a size. If it still stays empty, restart the phone once; iOS caches widget previews aggressively.
The widget updates on a schedule set by iOS, not instantly. Opening the app rewrites the schedule. If they stay out of step for more than a day, please write to us, that is a bug and we want to know.
Settings, inside the app. Changing the level does not delete anything you have already learned.
Because the open sentence collections contain far less Swedish than Spanish or English. Roughly two thirds of Swedish entries have an example, against nearly all entries in the other packs. This is a limit of the available data, not a setting. We are looking for further sources.
Delete the app. Everything Läxi stores lives inside the app and goes with it. There is no account and no copy on a server.
Sources, inside the app, names every dictionary and corpus used, with its licence.
Läxi does not collect any data. That is not a simplification, it is the whole policy.
The app makes no network requests. There is no analytics library, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter, no account and no login. Nothing about you is transmitted anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to go.
Your learning progress, your chosen languages and levels, and your settings are stored locally on your device, in a database inside the app and in a shared container that the app and the widget both read. None of it leaves the device. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
If you have switched on sharing of analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated crash statistics. That happens between you and Apple, we receive no identifiers and cannot link anything to a person. You control it under Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Läxi is suitable for all ages and collects nothing, from anyone.
If this ever stops being true, we will change this page before we change the app, not after.
